Movie Review – Shaolin Girl

Courtesy of nuffnang, I got two tickets to the movie, Shaolin girl.

Invited Linny to watch it together since she’s been such a good bitch girl studying for her exams.

Shaolin Girl focuses around the character of Rin [Kou Shibasaki ], a girl born with ‘too much power’ and without the ability to control it. The film begins in China [not ‘real china’ of course, we’re talking about huge temples and thousands of CGI monks practicing choreographed Wu Shu...because, you know, that’s what China is like], with Rin saying leaving to go back to Japan after years training with the monks.

Frankly speaking, the movie is awful.

Half of the time, we were wondering what does the scene contribute to the ( already very horrible ) storyline.

It’s draggy, long-winded and some scenes were almost painful to continue watching.

Even the most exciting "ball-turned-fire-dragon" CGI which linny was so looking forward to only appeared during the time the credits were rolling. -_-

Though they have a great cast of Japanese actors/actress and the "trademark fatso" of Stephen Chow’s movie, they just can’t seem to bring life to the movie. Maybe it’s because of the language barrier.

Ok, time for rating.

Verdict: Total brain-dead show, watch only with girls who are easily impressed. Not recommended for watching in the  theatres. Not even recommended to get the DVDs ( unless you are in spitland ).

Rating: 1/5
